MONTANA!

We arrived in Montana mid-day on Friday and of course found the first lake that Michael could put the jet ski in since he has been having withdrawals…it had been 4 days since the last lake we went in! We found Hebgen Lake which was about 45 minutes from Big Sky which was our destination for the night. Hebgen Lake was created by the Hebgen Dam and is famous for the 1959 Hebgen Lake earthquake (7.1-7.5 magnitude) which formed the appropriately named "Quake Lake" downstream from the lake. Today Hebgen Lake is popular for boating, camping, fishing, & hiking.

We rode the jet ski around for about an hour and then continued onto Big Sky. It was a beautiful drive past many ranches and farms, along the river and into the sunset. We checked into our hotel for the evening, The River Rock lodge, a very Montana-eqsue property near the Big Sky Ski Resort. We had dinner at an amazing BBQ restaurant recommended by the hotel (and that we had driven by and wanted to try), called the Gallantin RiverHouse Grill, a must try for anyone who comes to the Big Sky area! When we arrived the place was full, country music was playing, and we ordered drinks and went outside to watch the sunset while we waited for our table. Of course we wanted to try everything on the menu but we settled on the grilled BBQ chicken wings, fried pickles (yum!!!), ribs, and the fried chicken dinner which for $7 came with corn on the cob, cole slaw, baked beans, and cornbread. I am a little embarrassed to say that we ate every bite! It was undoubtedly the best BBQ we have EVER have!

We had a great night sleep in our very comfortable room and then enjoyed a nice breakfast and coffee at the hotel. We'll be taking off later this afternoon through Bozeman for either Butte or Missoula, exact destination TBD :)
